Costs for commercial solar panel systems

Costs for large solar panel systems

The purchase price for an operational photovoltaic system depends primarily on the output, the type of system modules and the required material and installation costs. Operating and maintenance costs are so low that they can be put on the back burner when it comes to considerations.

Below, you will find two example calculations for completed solar projects of different sizes.

Solar project – industry and business
Project data key figures Key figures
Installed output 362.34 kWp Payback period Approx. 7 Jahre
Investment amount (excluding VAT) CHF 378,448 Depreciation per year CHF 27,343
Annual electricity output over 25 years 312,480 MWh/year Recurring expenditure CHF 0.04542/kWh
Subsidy type (one-off) GREIV Net income after 25 years CHF 996,423
Subsidy amount CHF 105,016 Profit after 25 years CHF 705,754
Energy output after 25 years 8.07 GWh Internal interest flow (25 years) 10.53 %
Commissioned August 2018 Production costs (excluding VAT) CHF 0.062/kWh

Industrial and commercial electricity costs about CHF 0.16 per kWh, CHF 0.05 for electricity and another CHF 0.11 for fixed commercial charges and fees. The final cost of solar electricity, however, is between CHF 0.5 and 0.10 per kWh, depending on the solar panel system.

Jährlicher Stromertrag über 25 Jahre 109'207 Mwh/Jahr Wiederkehrender Aufwand 6.301 Rp./kWh
Subsidy type (one-off) GREIV Net income after 25 years CHF 487,085
Subsidy CHF 40,570 Profit after 25 years CHF 276,798
Energy output after 25 years 2.82 GWh Internal interest flow (25 years) 6.78 %
Commissioned August 2018 Production costs (excluding VAT) CHF 0.0987/kWh

Subsidies for large solar panel systems

The Swiss federal government and the cantons are fundamentally interested in promoting the production of renewable energies. Depending on the size of the system, subsidies are available that reimburse up to 25 % of the investment costs.

Did you know?

  • The average service life of a photovoltaic system is 30 years.
  • The manufacturer’s warranty for photovoltaic modules is between 20 and 25 years.
  • A photovoltaic system usually pays for itself after 9 to 10 years.

Financing through contracting

With contracting, you can get cheap solar power from your own roof without having to invest upfront. Helion acts as a contractor and sells you solar power at a contractually fixed price. In addition, you will receive financial compensation for the use of your roof space during the entire term of the contract. For large roof areas, contracting is a very attractive economic solution.

Economic reasons for installing a solar panel system

  • 1. Stable electricity price

As a company, you secure a stable electricity price in the longer term and save part of your operating costs in the process. In addition, the electricity tariff has to be renegotiated with the electricity company every two to five years.

  • 2. High level of self-consumption

The solar system produces most of its electricity during the day. In the business customer sector, this can usually be consumed straight away for five to seven days of the week. At the weekend, the electricity produced can be sold to the grid.

  • 3. Breaking power peaks

Where electricity is produced, there are often expensive peaks in consumption. The use of a solar panel system in combination with an electricity storage system helps to avoid expensive power peaks and save costs.

  • 4. Trustworthy calculation

For large customers, a load profile analysis is carried out to establish the system dimensions (optimised self-consumption). This means Helion analyses the profile and calculates the optimal dimension of the system.

Installation areas for large solar panel systems

The larger the system area, the more profitable the solar panel system. In addition to environmental reasons, the economic efficiency of photovoltaic systems on warehouses and production buildings of large customers is a pivotal factor.

On which roofs are large solar panel systems installed?

  • On residential buildings and apartment buildings (ZEV)
  • On warehouses and production buildings
  • On agricultural buildings
  • On solar farms
  • On e-mobility carports
  • And more.
